Birmingham City University, formerly the University of Central England Birmingham, is a forward-looking university of around 25,000 students, spread across eight campuses. Huddersfield University is a campus based university located close to the centre of the town. It was ranked as the top new university for teaching quality by the Times Higher Education Supplement. The university has undergone a major building programme in the last decade and a new purpose-built Student’s Union building was opened in 2005. Currently a new purpose-built arts building is being constructed and is expected to open in 2008. The university has a small, intimate feel, accentuated by having the campus on one contained site. Every year the university welcomes a large number of students from Europe onto its courses and this in turn has led to specialist events such as a European culture festival being introduced to the university’s social calendar. With European and international students assured of a warm welcome, this university is very popular with potential students and there are many courses geared to the foreign student

Sheffield Hallam University is based in the very heart of the city, just yards from the main railway station. With around 27,000 students and 4,000 staff, Sheffield Hallam is one of the largest universities in the country.
